We acted for Mr H, a very keen cyclist, in a compensation claim on a no win no fee basis.
The claim arose from a really serious cycling accident in Leeds.
As Mr H cycled down a hill on a main road with right of way, a car driver coming in the opposite direction failed to see him. The driver pulled straight across his path and into him and his bicycle, throwing him up into the air and then onto the road.
Emergency surgery was needed and at the outset the injuries were potentially life threatening.
We secured an early admission of liability from the driver’s insurers and we supported Mr H in the long journey through gradual rehabilitation and lots of intensive treatment.
He was unable to work for a while and we secured early interim payments of damages to help him to cope with his difficult financial position.
We obtained a lot of expert medical evidence as well as treatment for him. We built and prepared the claim.
Negotiations over the value of the claim began with the opponent’s insurers, in the hope that the claim could be concluded and Mr H could then get on with his life again. Part of the settlement was needed to support his future physical and psychological needs as a result of the injuries.
A final improved settlement offer of £375,000.00 in compensation was received. Upon detailed consideration and advice, Mr H accepted the offer and the claim was settled.
Perhaps the best facet of the claim is that Mr H received top class treatment and rehabilitation, all funded by the opponents,
