Where did that summer go?
Some kids are back at school already and most go back next week. It seems like five minutes since I was blogging about schools breaking up (see 22/7/11 post).
We are based in Leeds, a major student city with two universities plus loads of other tertiary colleges and institutions, and it won’t be long before all of the tens of thousands of students arrive too.
Wherever you live, the academic terms can make a big difference to our lives. For instance, the quiet summer roads and tame rush hours become seething lines of cars full of stressed people, all suddenly back on a time scale and competing to be somewhere on time. The renewed school run, the end of the holiday season and the end of quiet periods in many workplaces all coincide with wetter weather and darker mornings and evenings to make road conditions much more challenging.
Some workplaces, particularly outdoor ones, can become more challenging too because of natural changes in conditions like less daylight, fallen leaves, rain, snow and ice. The same conditions affect us all when we are out and about.
Common sense and experience lead us to take more care as Autumn arrives and to deal with these changes to our lives sensibly. Unfortunately, accidents usually involve at least two parties, so no matter how careful you are, sometimes you can’t avoid suffering as a result of someone else’s misjudgement, recklessness or fault.
Our statistics show that more injury compensation claims of all types are begun in the darker and wetter months from September to April than in the lighter and milder months from May to August.

Phil and Teds pushchair accidents – update
I blogged about this on the 10/6/11 and I can update you. We’re now well into this claim and have traced the UK suppliers of this upmarket New Zealand brand. Both they and the retailers are now considering the claim.
